Custom Barndominiums Built by a Steel Construction Team
A barndominium is a metal building you live in, so it should be built by people who know steel. MTX Construction builds barndominiums across East Texas with the same crew, the same welding experience and the same attention to detail we bring to our commercial projects.
Barndominiums have become one of the most popular ways to build a home in rural East Texas. They combine the strength and open space of a steel building with the comfort of a house. Many owners add a shop, garage or covered porch under the same roof. Whatever you have in mind, we can help you build it the right way.

What Is a Barndominium?
A barndominium, often called a barndo, is a home built with a steel frame and metal exterior, similar to a metal barn or shop. Inside, it can be finished like any other house, with bedrooms, bathrooms, a kitchen and living space. Many barndominiums also include a workshop, garage or equipment bay as part of the same building.
Because steel framing can span wide distances without interior support posts, barndominiums often feature large, open living areas and high ceilings. They are a strong fit for families who want room to spread out, people who need workspace at home and landowners who want a practical, durable home on their property.
Why Barndominiums Make Sense in East Texas
East Texas has plenty of open land, a strong rural lifestyle and weather that is tough on buildings. Barndominiums fit right in:
Durable construction
Pest resistance
Open floor plans
Room for work and play
Low exterior maintenance
Works with rural property

Shop-House Barndominiums
One of the most common requests we get is a home with a shop attached. For many East Texas families, a shop is not a luxury. It is where the truck gets worked on, where tools and equipment live and where side businesses and hobbies happen.
A shop-house barndominium puts that space right next to your home, under the same roof. You can walk from your kitchen to your workbench without stepping outside. With proper insulation, the shop can be comfortable to work in year-round.
Insulation Matters in a Barndominium
Steel moves heat quickly, and East Texas humidity can cause condensation on cold metal surfaces. In a home, those issues affect comfort, energy bills and the long-term health of the building. That is why insulation is part of how we build every barndominium. We insulate the shell to help keep heat out in summer, keep moisture off the steel and keep your home quiet when it rains.
No Surprises From Start to Move-In
Building a home is one of the biggest decisions you will make. We make sure you understand every step. Throughout the build, you will know what is happening and what comes next. If something changes, you will hear it from us first. Here is how a barndominium project works with MTX:
- Planning conversation: we talk about your property, your layout and how you want to use the space.
- Site review: we look at your land, access, slope and drainage.
- Scope and estimate: you get a clear scope of work for the parts of the project we handle.
- Schedule and completion date: before we start, you know the timeline.
- Site prep and slab: we prepare the site and pour the foundation.
- Steel erection: our crew puts up the frame, roof, walls, doors and trim.
- Insulation: we insulate the building envelope.
- Walkthrough and follow-up: we walk the work with you and answer every question.
